President’s Report 2016

2016 has been a tremendous year for the Mighty Mayne Tigers. Our club had 157 registered players across 10 teams from U6s to U15s and record numbers participating in Auskick.

Our Under 15s won the Division 2 premiership defeating Wilston Grange in a memorable come from behind win. The victory was extra special for those boys who got all the way to the Grand Final last year but fell short. Presentation Day was made extra special when the U15s showed off our first premiership cup since 2010. Our U13s did a fantastic job to make it to the finals and I’m sure they’ll be a team to watch in 2017.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the commitment of three very special committee members who will be handing over the reigns to the next generation of parents and friends of Mayne. Campbell Shaw, Leta Dempsey and Anthony Quin have given so much to this club for so many years across so many roles. I would personally like to thank them for their guidance and wisdom during my first year as President.

I would also like to thank our other committee members who have dedicated so much of their time and energy this season including Marguerite O’Shea, Jess Elliott, Mark Gordon, Chris Glass, Chris Dalton, Chris Mitchell and Scott Hawkanson.

The quality of football and the spirit in which it was played by our children this year was exemplary. I would like to thank all our Coaches, Assistants and Managers for their hard work, dedication and passion shown this year.

Thanks also to all the people that have assisted with the canteen, Breakfast Creek Hotel raffle, Labour Day BBQ, Family Day, game days, Auskick and the countless other activities that are crucial to the operations of our club.

A big congratulations to Fraser Masin who was selected to represent the Metropolitan North District team at the Queensland School Sports AFL U15 Carnival.

It was a truly great moment for the club earlier this year when the Channel 7 Weekend Sunrise program ran a story on our great “Welcome to Mayne” program. I’m sure those who were there will cherish the time they had with Brisbane Lions players Rueben William and Dayne Zorko for a long time to come. I would like to thank Richard Loveday and Scott Hawkanson for their vision and commitment to the program which goes from strength to strength each season.

Fun, Family, Footy, was on display at our 2016 Family Day – it was a great example of what a magnificent football community we have. Thank you to all those who helped with the day.

Another memorable day this year saw AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan and AFL Commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick visit our club. It’s a testament to the vision, values and direction of our club.

In 2016 we worked closely with the (TDCC), represented by David and Andrew Oldham to roll out improvements to the Oxenham Park facilities including significant improvements to the canteen (thank you to Mark Gordon for overseeing this work). We look forward to working together with TDCC to advance our facilities programs in 2017.

On the financial front, our club remains well positioned with a strong balance sheet. Full credit to everyone involved in fund-raising activities during the season. In particular I’d like to thank the Mayne Tigers Past Players and Supporters Association and Ashley Robinson for their contributions and support.

Below are some of the great moments we shared from the 2016 season. Why not leave a comment and show your support for the Mighty Mayne Tigers.

Thanks again to everyone who helped make 2016 a memorable year of FUN, FAMILY, FOOTY and here’s to an even better 2017!

Regards,

Campbell Corser
