2017 President’s Report

It’s been another great year at Mayne with over 160 children wearing the yellow and black from Roy’s Juniors all the way up to Under 16s.

Congratulations to our Under 12s and Under 16s for making it to the Grand Finals. Unfortunately they couldn’t come away with the chocolates but both teams had great seasons.

I would especially like to say well done to all the Under 16s players, and families who enjoyed their final season of junior footy at our club this year. What an impressive bunch of young men. We are all very proud of what you’ve achieved during your time at Mayne.

At the other end of the club, 2017 saw the introduction of the Roy’s Juniors program. It was a resounding success with 27 tigers enjoying a round robin format with Zillmere and Kedron footy clubs. Thanks so much to Kel Donovan in his first season at the club leading this group of very tenacious tigers.

I would like to thank all our Coaches, Assistants and Managers for their hard work, dedication and passion shown throughout the year. The quality of football and the spirit in which we play the game is a direct result of the time, effort and care put in by our parents and volunteers.

Chris Poynter, Louise Kuzevich, Shari Breen, Marguerite O’Shea, Chris Dalton, Chris Glass and Leta Dempsey were absolutely outstanding serving on the committee this year. I cannot thank these fantastic people enough for their support and passion for our club.

To everyone else that has lent a hand throughout the year with the canteen, Breakfast Creek Hotel raffles, Mega Mayne Raffle, Labour Day BBQ, Family Day, game days, Auskick and the countless other activities a big thank you to you too. We simply cannot operate as a club unless we have an engaged and passionate community of families.

Apart from the hamstring twang, I’d have to say that our Disco Inferno Family Day and Parents’ Match was one of the big highlights of the year for me. I can’t wait for next year’s event and am open to suggestions on a theme, perhaps “Karaoke Kraze” could work.

Another memorable milestone was the roll out of our free Girls Come and Try Sessions each and every Thursday night during the season. The program was a fantastic stepping stone towards fielding our first girls team in 2018.

A new rooftop deck, Hercules the BBQ, a mobile irrigator and a new paved section for Oval 2 were some of the improvements made to Oxenham Park this year. A big thank you to secretary Andrew Oldham and new president Simon Mammino at Toombul Cricket Club for all their hard work.

I’d like to thank Aidan Jones and the team at Franklyn for coming on board as our major sponsor in 2017. I think you’ll all agree the training and tops and polo shirts proudly featuring the Franklyn logo were the best we’ve ever seen.

On the financial front, we remain well positioned with a strong balance sheet which is a result of a fantastic whole of club effort with fundraising activities during the season.

I hope everyone is enjoying their break from footy and can’t wait to see you all back at Mayne for another big year of FUN, FAMILY, FOOTY in 2018!

Regards,

Campbell Corser
